Aviationtag have been taking original airplane parts off from what were once real-life airliners and turning them into premium, one-of-a-kind designer and collector’s items since as far back as 2006. In 2015, Aviationtag had the idea of making the world a little bit better by upcycling scrapped airplanes into special 'Aviationtags'. Alongside commercial planes like the Boeing 747 or the Airbus A340, they have also given historical aircraft like the DC-3 “candy bomber” a second life as an Aviationtag.

The Aviationtags themselves are 100% authentic original airplane skin. The origin of the material can be traced back seamlessly all the way to when the plane was first sold for scrap.

The Airbus A330-200 left the factory doors for British Airtours International Airways in June 1999 with the registration G-MLJL and manufacturer serial number (MSN) 254. The plane took to the skies for the airline, renamed MyTravel Airways in 2002, for a total of eight years, serving international destinations. In 2007, MyTravel merged with Thomas Cook Airlines, which took on the entire fleet, comprising 16 aircraft at the time – including three A330-200s. At the same time, Swedish MyTravel Airways A/S was renamed Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia, which our G-MLJL was also in operation for. In September 2012, Garuda Indonesia used the Airbus until it returned to Thomas Cook again in November 2012.

On 23 September 2019, the A330 made its last flight from Orlando to Manchester. This marked not only the last flight for our plane, but the last flight for Thomas Cook as a whole, which had to file for insolvency. The end of an era that had lasted 178 years.

So we are all the more thrilled to have been able to preserve part of the Thomas Cook story and bring it home to you as an Aviationtag!

Note: Every tag is unique. Depending on the plane, tags may vary in haptics, thickness of material and colour. Small irregularities tell of a plane’s long history and convey the feeling of its glory days above the clouds.

Dimensions: 35 x 88mm.
